Merlion in Singapore
|Merlion is the national icon of Singapore. It depicts a mythical creature that has the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The symbol was designed for a logo of the Singapore Tourism Board. Its fish like body represents the origin of Singapore as a fishing village and the lion head stands for the original name of Singapore-‘Singapura’. Only five Merlion statues in Singapore are recognized by the STB. The original 8.6 meters high statue sits in the Merlion Park sprouting water from its mouth. Tourists also visit the 37 meter high replica of the Merlion Statue at Sentosa Island.
